Such a good book. The characters, namely Savannah and Rafe, continue to grow and develop and change. I love that you get a little more insight into Rafe and his interests, outside of Savannah and getting the bad guys. Savannah has another epiphany and actually begins to stand up for herself, even to her own mother. She's actually even letting some of that 'southern belle' persona go by the wayside, which makes her an even more likable character.Where the other books in this series seem to focus a little more on the solving of the mystery, the focus here is slightly more on the romance. That being said, there are a couple of murders and a couple of mysteries to be solved in this book as well. So if you like a little mystery with your romance or a little romance with your mystery, this is a good series to read. If you are new to this series, there is enough background information in this book that you won't be completely lost. However, I would highly recommend starting from the first book, "A Cutthroat Business" just so that you would have a better understanding of Savannah and Rafe and their long and difficult journey to get where they are in this book. (There are links at the bottom of my review for the first five books, in a box set, and the novella, separate, in the series.)
Jenna Bennett does an excellent job of spinning a tale that keeps you guessing until the end, especially in this book. There were a couple of scenes that made me laugh aloud, and the intimate scenes are steamy yet tasteful. I highly recommend, not only this book, but the whole series. I would have a hard time choosing between "Change of Heart" and "Contract Pending" for my favorite. I hope Ms. Bennett keeps writing about Savannah and Rafe for a very long time.

I gave this book a 4 because, I felt that Savannah was a bit silly in her reaction to Rafe leaving the house early. She has a tendency to overreact to situations, especially knowing that Rafe has worked for the TBI for 20 or more years in an undercover situation. You would think that she would understand that he couldn’t just stop that work and be a house husband. That was the first thing that popped into my mind. Not that he was running around on her.
Having said that, I do love this series and as usual the mystery is great. The family dynamics are interesting. I hope her next book comes out soon.
First the author keeps you wanting more and more of her books. They don't come fast enough. This book did not fail any expectations. She had me worried with the title being CHANGE OF HEART but it was VERY fitting. In this book, she gets a little "juicier" with her two main characters, Savannah and Rafe. Not knowing where it was headed I couldn't put the book down. With all her books, I have to read it all the way through. I keep trying to figure out where each character's storyline is going and if I have figured each one out. She is harder to make a good guess of your own--there is always that twist that throws everything I think is going to happen right out the window. SHE IS GOOD! Very much recommend the book.
Another wonderful book in the Cutthroat Business series. We finally get to see Savannah & Rafe as a full time couple, of course with all their angst. As usual, Rafe has to be involved in something secretive that worries Savannah & Savannah gets mixed up in another murder, which of course worries Rafe. I won't spoil the read for you with too many details, but this book is well worth the read, as are the other 5 1/2 books in this delightful series. I vowed with this book that I would read it slowly & savor the read, but as usual I devoured it in one morning, refusing to put it down even for a minute. Jenna promises that there will be a book #7 - Kickout Clause, hopefully sometime later this year. She also states she has ideas formulating for at least two more after that, so Cutthroat Business lovers, hope springs eternal!
Being a HUGE fan of Jenna Bennett, I waited for what seemed like forever for this book to come out and I am happy to report it is definitely worth waiting for. Savannah and Rafe are back and better than EVER! I recommend reading this series of books from the beginning but even if you don't, the author gives you enough background history throughout the book so that you're familiar with the characters and their journey so far. This is the first book with Savannah and Rafe as a real couple trying to build a relationship together and with Savannah and her curiosity around, there's bound to be a mystery she stumbles upon and this book delivers. So whether you're a fan of romance or a fan of mystery or a fan of both like myself, Jenna Bennett and the Cutthroat series will not disappoint! I guarantee you'll be a Savannah and Rafe fan just like me!
I like funny light mysteries but romantic ones usually turn me off because they're usually too graphic for my tastes. Ms. Bennett manages to write a very sexy romantic mystery with a good mystery element and it's so (relatively) full of sexiness that only as I started to write this review did I realize how UNgraphic it is -- (I guess cause I usually skim past the blatant-type sex scenes in other books). The main character isn't so much prudish as inexperienced, and while I thought her hang-ups were going to end up annoying/boring me -- I couldn't stop reading.
As this is a comedic mystery, the main character does a lot of stupid stuff (par for the course in this genre) but the author made me go along with it. I'm at a loss to understand it - this series definitely makes me think of Stephanie Plum novels but with more restraint (or polish?); I think it's that restraint/polish that added to my enjoyment of this series. I bought and read all of them over the space of 2-3 days, and when I do that I'm usually tired of a series by book 4. Not in this case though - I just finished this most recent one and I'm wishing there was another one
